Snowfall possible in South Carolina this weekend

SOUTH CAROLINA — South Carolina may see its first hint of wintry precipitation this season as a surge of cold air settles over the region this weekend.

Forecasters say temperatures will stay well below normal, with highs only in the 40s and overnight lows dipping into the low to mid-20s across the Upstate. A light wintry mix is possible Sunday morning, mainly in the mountains just north of Highway 11 along the South Carolina–North Carolina border.

Weather models have trended colder and wetter from Sunday into early next week. While most of South Carolina is expected to see cold rain after any brief mix, mountain areas could pick up additional wintry precipitation.

Another system is expected to move in Monday night, bringing the chance of a second round of mixed precipitation in the mountains and widespread soaking rain across the rest of the state on Tuesday.

Cold temperatures will persist through the week, with highs struggling to reach 50 degrees until Friday, when temperatures are expected to climb into the 50s. Forecasters say another blast of arctic air is likely to arrive next weekend, bringing another round of frigid conditions.
