SOUTH CAROLINA — Cold temperatures are expected across South Carolina this week, but the chance for snowfall remains limited, with only a small possibility of flurries in some areas.
Forecasters say a surge of polar air will move southward late Wednesday into Thursday, bringing sharply colder conditions to the Carolinas. In South Carolina’s Upstate, there is a chance that a small amount of moisture late Wednesday night could produce a few flurries. However, no measurable snowfall accumulation is expected in most areas.
Snow chances increase farther north, particularly in the mountains of western North Carolina. Higher elevations north of Asheville could see up to an inch of snow, with some locations closer to the Tennessee border potentially receiving 1 to 3 inches. Asheville and areas to the south may only see flurries or a trace of snow.
Thursday is expected to be bitterly cold, with temperatures struggling to rise out of the 30s across much of the region. Strong winds, with gusts up to 50 mph, could make conditions feel significantly colder, especially from Wednesday night into Thursday.
Another blast of cold air is expected to arrive Sunday, but uncertainty remains regarding snowfall. Forecast models disagree, with some suggesting snow is possible while others show little to no precipitation. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as the weekend approaches.
