Snow totals increasing for this weekend in Pennsylvania

PENNSYLVANIA — The National Weather Service State College has issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of Pennsylvania as a strong winter system is expected to bring significant snow and hazardous travel conditions this weekend.

The Winter Storm Watch is currently in effect from Saturday evening through Monday, with the potential for heavy snow and difficult travel conditions. Snow is most likely to begin late Saturday night, continue through Sunday into early Monday, and may be accompanied by gusty winds and bitter cold.

Forecasters are warning that widespread snowfall totals could range from about 6 to 10 inches in many areas, with even higher amounts possible in parts of the state — especially across central and eastern Pennsylvania. Some forecasts suggest snow accumulations could exceed 10 inches in spots, depending on the storm’s track.

The watch highlights the timing, indicating that the storm system will arrive late Saturday night, peak on Sunday, and taper off by early Monday morning. Conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly once snowfall begins, increasing the risk of poor visibility and slick roads throughout the travel period.

A Winter Storm Watch means that heavy snow, sleet and/or ice is possible and could create significant travel disruptions and hazardous conditions. Residents are urged to monitor updates from the NWS, finalize travel plans early, and be prepared for rapidly changing weather this weekend.
