Snow possible in West Virginia next week

WEST VIRGINIA — If you live in the West Virginia mountains, there’s a chance you could see some snow next week.

Snow in West Virginia? In May? Yes, weather models for next week are showing light snowfall for the highest terrain of West Virginia next week.

According to models for Thursday, May 22, to Friday, May 23, snow showers are possible in the mountains stretching from Preston County to northern Greenbrier and Nicholas counties.

Up to a half-inch of snow is possible, according to recent models. 

The possibility has created a buzz on social media.

Snow has occurred in West Virginia during May, particularly in the state’s higher elevations, according to data from the National Weather Service.

While it’s uncommon, several notable late-season snow events have been recorded.
