Six inmates charged following stabbing incident at Virginia prison

VIRGINIA — Six gang-affiliated inmates are facing a combined 66 felony charges in connection with a violent attack on correctional officers at Wallens Ridge State Prison earlier this year.

According to the Wise County and City of Norton Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the charges stem from a May 2 incident in which two Virginia Department of Corrections officers were stabbed multiple times and a third was assaulted.

In total, five officers were involved. All were treated and discharged from the hospital by May 8, VADOC Director Chad Dotson said.

The inmates charged are:

Melvin Edgardo Molina-Ramos, 28 – charged with attempted aggravated murder, aggravated malicious wounding, conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding by mob, bodily injury by prisoner, gang participation, and possession of an illegal weapon by a prisoner.

Jeremiah Larenz Mouzon, 26 – charged with attempted aggravated murder, aggravated malicious wounding, conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding by mob, bodily injury by prisoner, gang participation, and possession of an illegal weapon by a prisoner. Moises

Alejandro Alfaro Olivia, 41 – charged with aggravated malicious wounding, conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding by mob, bodily injury by prisoner, and gang participation.

Armando Dagobert Reyes Reyes, 33 – charged with aggravated malicious wounding, conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding by mob, bodily injury by prisoner, and gang participation.

Christian Rene Reyes-Coreas, 30 – charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding by mob, bodily injury by prisoner, and gang participation.

Kevin Josue Soto-Bonilla, 28 – charged with attempted aggravated murder, aggravated malicious wounding, conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding by mob, bodily injury by prisoner, gang participation, and possession of an illegal weapon by a prisoner.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares announced that his office is assisting with the prosecution of the case.

Dotson called the assault a “heinous attack” against correctional staff. The investigation remains ongoing.
