Six arrested following shooting at Ohio mall

TOLEDO — Six people were reportedly taken into custody Friday afternoon after a fight at Franklin Park Mall escalated into a shooting in the parking lot.

According to the Toledo Police Department (TPD), the altercation began inside the mall on Nov. 8 and later spilled into the parking area, where shots were fired.

No one was reported injured by the gunfire, though several vehicles were struck. Minor injuries were noted, stemming from the fight itself, not from the shooting.

Police conducted a protective sweep of the mall to ensure there were no further victims or suspects and confirmed there was no active threat.

Shortly afterward, a vehicle seen leaving the scene was stopped at the intersection of Central Avenue and Secor Road, where its occupants were detained.

TPD estimated that six people were ultimately arrested in connection with the incident.

While evidence was being gathered, several businesses around the mall, including Dick’s Sporting Goods, temporarily closed.

Most businesses were expected to reopen Friday evening, though Dick’s remained closed for the night.

Franklin Park Mall officials issued a statement emphasizing their commitment to guest and employee safety, adding that the mall resumed normal hours and would close at 8 p.m. as scheduled.

The TPD is continuing its investigation, and any inquiries can be directed to TPD Public Information Officer Paul Davis at 419.277.8662.
