LOUISIANA — A risk for severe thunderstorms is forecast across parts of Louisiana on Saturday, and the storms could lead to scattered power outages in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, a slight risk of severe thunderstorms is expected across much of the lower Mississippi Valley on Saturday as a storm system moves through the region.

Forecasters say scattered severe thunderstorms could develop from Saturday morning into the evening across parts of Louisiana and surrounding states.
The primary threats from these storms include damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
Strong winds produced by severe thunderstorms can bring down trees and power lines, which can lead to power outages. In past severe weather events across Louisiana, strong storms have knocked out electricity to thousands of homes and businesses as utility crews worked to repair damaged lines.
If storms become more widespread or organize into stronger clusters, outages could increase quickly in affected communities.
Utility companies often prepare for the possibility of outages during severe weather by staging crews and equipment in advance.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and weather alerts throughout the day Saturday and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
