OHIO — Strong to severe storms are expected to develop across Ohio late Sunday evening, bringing the potential for damaging winds, hail, and even spin-up tornadoes.
The storms are expected to last into early Monday morning.
A strong storm system moving through the region will follow widespread rain from Saturday night into Sunday morning. If skies clear in the afternoon, the risk of severe storms later in the day will increase.
The most significant threat from these storms will be damaging winds, with some areas also seeing hail up to one inch in diameter and a minor risk of flooding.
Spin-up tornadoes are also a concern, often forming with little warning.
Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, such as a fully charged phone or a NOAA weather radio.
Because the storms will develop after dark, it is especially important to stay informed overnight.
Current forecasts predict storms arriving between 6 to 8 p.m. in western Ohio, 7 to 10 p.m. in Columbus, and 8 to 10 p.m. in eastern Ohio.
The severe weather threat should taper off after the main line of storms moves through, with rain lingering into Monday morning.
Ohioans are advised to secure outdoor items, stay alert to weather updates, and have a plan in place in case warnings are issued.
