Several inches of snow possible in West Virginia Sunday

WEST VIRGINIA — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for portions of West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia from late Saturday night through Monday morning.

Heavy snowfall and strong winds are expected, making travel conditions hazardous.

Expected Snowfall Totals by Region:

• Upshur, Barbour, Nicholas, Webster, Pocahontas, and Randolph Counties (WV): 4 to 7 inches of snow possible, with wind gusts up to 40 mph.
• Garrett County (MD), Western Grant and Western Pendleton Counties (WV): Around 6 inches of snow possible, with wind gusts up to 45 mph.
• Western Maryland, Northern and Northwest Virginia, and Eastern Panhandle WV: Up to 5 or 6 inches of snow possible.
• Western Greenbrier County (WV): 5 to 8 inches of snow possible.
• Eastern Preston, Eastern Tucker, and Western Tucker Counties (WV): 5 to 7 inches of snow possible, with wind gusts up to 35 mph.

Timing and Impacts

The storm is expected to begin late Saturday night and continue through Monday morning.

The heaviest snowfall is expected Sunday into early Monday, potentially affecting the Monday morning commute.

Gusty winds could cause drifting snow and downed tree branches.
