MARYLAND — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory across much of Maryland as a fast-moving winter system brings snow and cold temperatures to the region late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
The advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Saturday to about 7 a.m. Sunday for central and northern parts of the state, including the Baltimore-Washington region. Snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with localized amounts up to 4–5 inches possible in northeastern Maryland and parts of the Baltimore area.
In Calvert and Charles counties, a separate advisory runs from midnight Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, with similar snowfall and slippery road concerns.
Forecasts show precipitation will likely begin as rain or a wintry mix before quickly transitioning to snow as temperatures drop. A narrow band of heavier snow could produce brief periods of moderate to heavy snowfall overnight, making travel difficult in some localized areas.
Meteorologists warn that roads may become slick early Sunday, particularly on untreated surfaces, and visibility could be reduced during peak snow bands. The advisory also covers parts of western Maryland, where gusty winds and colder air will accompany the snow.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for slippery conditions, especially Sunday morning when many commuters will be on the roads. Local school and government closures or delays could be announced depending on how conditions evolve overnight.
