Several inches of snow likely in Kentucky Saturday

KENTUCKY — The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for much of Kentucky on Saturday as a snow-producing system moves across the state, bringing the potential for several inches of snow and hazardous travel conditions.

Snow is expected to begin across western Kentucky early Saturday morning and spread eastward through the day.

According to the latest forecast, snow will continue into Saturday night before tapering off late in the evening. Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible in many communities under advisory, with locally higher amounts anticipated in parts of central and northern Kentucky.

In the Louisville metropolitan area and surrounding counties, snowfall totals between 2 and 4 inches are most likely. Farther north, including areas closer to the Ohio River, 3 to 5 inches of snow may accumulate, with locally higher totals where snow bands become more persistent.

In central Kentucky, including Lexington and surrounding counties under advisory, snowfall totals are forecast at 2 to 4 inches, with slightly lower amounts in the southern reaches of the advisory area.

The National Weather Service warns that the timing of the snow — particularly during afternoon and evening travel hours — could lead to rapidly deteriorating road conditions. Slick roads and reduced visibility are possible as snow accumulates, especially on untreated surfaces. Motorists are urged to plan for slower travel, allow extra time for trips, and exercise caution when driving.

In addition to the snow, very cold air is expected to follow the storm Saturday night into Sunday, with temperatures dropping well below normal. The combination of cold temperatures and snow-covered roads may prolong slick conditions through Sunday morning.

Forecasters say the advisories are in place to alert residents to the risk of hazardous travel and accumulating snow, but conditions can change. The National Weather Service continues to monitor the storm and may update advisories or issue new warnings as needed.

Residents are encouraged to check local forecasts and travel advisories throughout the weekend to stay informed of the evolving winter weather.
