Seven students sickened after eating THC candy at Virginia middle school

VIRGINIA — Seven students at N.B. Clements Junior High School became ill Friday afternoon after consuming THC-infused candies, according to Prince George County Public Schools.

School staff learned of the students’ symptoms and discovered they had eaten “gummy-type candies” containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component in cannabis products. Emergency services were called to the school to check on the students, all of whom received care.

The candies were confiscated, and school officials said the incident violates both the Student Code of Conduct and state law. “Those responsible for distributing these THC-infused candies on school grounds will be subject to discipline,” the district said. The school is working with the Prince George County Police Department as the investigation continues.

School officials emphasized the incident as a cautionary reminder for families. “Today should serve as a reminder of the dangers posed by substances that may appear harmless but contain ingredients unsafe for children,” the district said.

Parents with concerns about their child’s well-being or questions about discussing substance safety are encouraged to contact school administrators or counselors.
