OHIO — A semi truck crashed into a creek off Interstate 75 early Monday morning, prompting a response from Moraine police, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and hazmat crews.

According to the Moraine Police Department, the crash occurred around 12:35 a.m. when the semi left the roadway and rolled into a creek.

Authorities said the truck was hauling empty tanks that had previously contained hazardous materials.

As a precaution, the Ohio EPA and hazmat teams were called to the scene due to concerns about a potential fuel leak. Officials later confirmed the vehicle was leaking diesel fuel, and cleanup crews were working to remove the material from the creek.

Police said the driver was cited for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
