COLUMBUS — A man was fatally shot in north Columbus on Thursday night, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Fordham Road, just south of Morse Road, shortly before 9 p.m.
Upon arrival, police discovered 37-year-old Dennis Peoples III suffering from gunshot wounds in front of a residence.
Peoples was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead at 9:31 p.m.
Authorities have not released details regarding the circumstances leading to the shooting, but police said Friday that investigators are examining a claim of self-defense.
The case will be presented to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office for further review and grand jury consideration.
