Schools in Pennsylvania to close multiple days in January

0

PENNSYLVANIA — Public schools across Pennsylvania will be closed for two days next month as part of regularly scheduled holiday observances.

Schools will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of New Year’s Day. The holiday marks the first day of the new year and is recognized statewide, resulting in the closure of public school buildings and administrative offices.

Classes will also be canceled on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The federal and state holiday honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and is observed annually on the third Monday in January.

School calendars are set by individual districts but generally follow state and federal holiday guidelines outlined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Families are encouraged to check with their local school districts for specific calendar details, including any make-up days or schedule adjustments tied to weather-related closures later in the school year.

Classes are scheduled to resume following each holiday on the next regular school day.
