KENTUCKY — Public schools across Kentucky will be closed on multiple days in January as part of scheduled holiday observances during the 2025–26 school year.
Schools statewide will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of New Year’s Day. The holiday marks the beginning of the new year and is a standard closure on school calendars throughout the state.
Classes will also be canceled on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The federal holiday honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and is traditionally observed on the third Monday in January.
The closures apply to most public school districts in Kentucky, though families are encouraged to check with their local district calendars for any additional adjustments or weather-related changes.
Parents and students can plan accordingly for the extended weekends created by the scheduled days off.
