INDIANA — Schools across Indiana will close for two scheduled holidays in January 2026, giving students and staff two days off during the month.
Indiana schools will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of New Year’s Day. The holiday marks the first day of the new year and is recognized statewide, with most public schools, government offices, and many businesses closed.
Schools will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The federal holiday honors the life and legacy of the civil rights leader and is widely observed across Indiana and the nation.
The closures are part of regularly scheduled school calendars. Families are encouraged to check with their local school districts for any additional calendar updates, teacher workdays, or weather-related adjustments that could affect schedules later in the winter.
