GEORGIA — Public schools across Georgia will be closed for at least two days in January 2026 in observance of New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Schools statewide will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day, a federally recognized holiday.
Classes will also not be held on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which honors the civil rights leader’s legacy and contributions to the nation.
Most school districts in Georgia follow a standard academic calendar that includes closures for major federal holidays.
Officials with local school systems encourage parents and students to review district calendars for any additional scheduled days off, early dismissals, or teacher workdays that may occur around the holidays.
Families are advised to check directly with their local school districts for specific information regarding operations and extracurricular activities.
