NORTH CAROLINA — Potential snowfall and icy road conditions across parts of North Carolina are prompting several school systems to alter their schedules for Monday, December 8, 2025.
A combination of winter weather advisories and freezing temperatures led districts in northern and western regions of the state to cancel classes, delay school start times, or move to remote learning.
Elkin City Schools in Surry County announced that schools will be closed Monday, with an optional teacher workdayin place. Nearby, Yancey County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay, and district officials stressed that buses will not run on icy roads, meaning families must provide transportation if conditions allow for safe travel.
In the north-central part of the state, Person County Schools will operate through remote learning only, keeping students at home due to potential ice and slick roads. Roxboro Community School in Person County will also shift to remote learning for the day.
Farther east, Perquimans County Schools announced it will be closed Monday, citing winter weather impacts and safety concerns.
School officials across the affected regions encourage families to monitor weather updates and district announcements, noting that continued freezing conditions could affect Tuesday schedules as well.
