ARKANSAS — Dangerous winter conditions including snow, ice and hazardous travel have prompted numerous school districts across Arkansas to cancel classes for Monday, January 26, 2026, as communities continue to cope with the effects of a powerful winter storm.
Several larger districts in northwest Arkansas confirmed closures for Monday, including Springdale Public Schools, Fayetteville Public Schools, Rogers Public Schools, Gentry Schools, Fort Smith Public Schools and Bentonville schools. District leaders cited slick roads and freezing temperatures as the primary reasons for canceling in-person instruction.
Hope Public Schools in southwest Arkansas also announced it will be closed Monday due to ongoing winter weather threats, encouraging families to stay safe and monitor conditions for possible updates regarding Tuesday.
In Saline County and central Arkansas, multiple districts including Bryant Public Schools, Benton Public Schools and Harmony Grove School District are listed as closed Monday because of the weather, alongside other closures affecting local government offices and services.
In addition to classroom shutdowns, many districts have also canceled extracurricular activities and after-school events to limit travel and exposure to dangerous road conditions. Officials across the state have urged families to check direct communications from their local districts for the most up-to-date information, as additional closures or schedule changes may be announced if conditions warrant.
State officials continue to monitor the storm’s impact and warn that snow and ice can linger on untreated roads throughout the week, making travel hazardous even after precipitation ends.
