Recovery underway following drowning incident in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — Emergency crews are conducting recovery efforts following a reported drowning at Lake Glenville, officials confirmed Monday.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at the Pines Recreation Area, which has since been closed to the public.

Authorities shared the update on social media, asking residents and visitors to stay away from the area during the recovery operation.

“The Pines Recreation Area is closed until further notice and we ask the public to please stay away from the area,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Lake Glenville is located in Jackson County, near the communities of Cullowhee and Cashiers.

No further details have been released as the recovery efforts continue.
