OHIO — The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides financial assistance to Ohioans struggling to cover their home energy bills.
This federally funded program offers a one-time benefit applied directly to the customer’s utility or bulk fuel bill, helping to ease the burden of energy costs during the year.
Eligibility Requirements
Ohio residents with a household size of seven or fewer and incomes at or below 175 percent of federal poverty guidelines may qualify for HEAP.
Income limits vary depending on household size; for example, a single-person household qualifies with a 12-month income of up to $26,355, while a four-person household qualifies with an income up to $54,600.
Larger households with eight or more members may qualify under different income limits, based on 60 percent of the State Median Income.
All applicants must report gross household income for the past 30 days (or 12 months, if preferred), excluding earnings from dependent minors under 18. Both renters and homeowners can apply.
Application Process
