PENNSYLVANIA — An investigation is ongoing after a multi-vehicle crash along a portion of Interstate 80 in western Pennsylvania on Monday, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
State police said the crash occurred around 1 p.m. at mile marker 69 in Clarion Township. Officials have not yet released the total number of vehicles involved, and it remains unclear how many people may have been injured.
The incident prompted significant traffic disruptions. The PennDOT advised motorists to exit I-80 at Exit 60, Route 66 North in Shippenville, travel north on Route 66 to Route 322 East, and re-enter I-80 at Exit 70 in Strattanville. PennDOT said the estimated reopening time for the affected portion of the interstate has been adjusted to 10:30 p.m.
Authorities noted that an earlier detour route was changed after a downed tree blocked Route 28 East toward Brookville.
In response to the crash and ongoing winter weather conditions, PennDOT issued a speed restriction between Exit 53, PA 338 in Knox, and Exit 73, PA 949 in Corsica. Speed limits in that stretch are reduced to 45 mph for all vehicles, and commercial vehicles are required to remain in the right lane.
State police urged drivers to slow down due to snow-covered roadways and warned of snow squalls affecting high-traffic areas, including I-80.
