TENNESSEE — Authorities are searching for a suspect following a Thursday evening shooting in Antioch that resulted in the death of a 41-year-old man, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
Police said Alexander E. Sanchez-Montilla was shot shortly after 6 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the 4400 block of Winton Drive. Investigators said Sanchez-Montilla called 911 while a friend was driving him to TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna via Interstate 24.
Sanchez-Montilla suffered gunshot wounds to both legs. He was later airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, where he died early Friday morning, Feb. 13.
Detectives said the preliminary investigation indicates Sanchez-Montilla had gone to the Winton Drive residence to purchase a vehicle that had been listed on Facebook Marketplace. Authorities reported that he went inside the garage for several minutes before shots were fired. Police said Sanchez-Montilla was targeted as he ran from the garage to rejoin his friend.
Investigators have identified 21-year-old Jonathan Alexander Gonzalez, also known as Juan David Gonzalez, as the suspected shooter. Arrest warrants were issued overnight charging Gonzalez with attempted criminal homicide — a charge that will be upgraded to criminal homicide due to the victim’s death — as well as felony reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, use of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and vandalism.
Police are asking anyone who sees Gonzalez or has information about his whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
