SOUTH CAROLINA — The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting Wednesday at Independence Mobile Home Park.
Deputies were dispatched to the park, located at 60 Shanklin Road in Burton, after receiving reports of gunfire on Sept. 10. When they arrived, they found a man dead from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as Ty Haskell Jenkins IV, 20, of St. Helena Island.
Investigators have identified Tyre Joe Atkins, 21, also of St. Helena Island, as the suspect in the case. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on a charge of murder.
As of Thursday afternoon, authorities said the vehicle connected to Atkins had been located, but the suspect remains at large.
The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who knows Atkins’ whereabouts to call 911. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Beaufort County through the P3 Tips app, online, or by calling 844-TIPS-BFT (844-847-7238).
