INDIANA — Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with a shooting that left one person critically injured Tuesday evening in Marion.
According to the Marion Police Department, officers were called around 6:15 p.m. to the intersection of 30th and Hamaker streets for a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they learned the victim, a 58-year-old man, had already been transported to Marion Health. He was later airlifted to a hospital in Fort Wayne for further treatment after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigators said video footage shows an argument between two men that escalated into gunfire. Police described the shooting as reckless, noting multiple bystanders were outside at the time and had to take cover.
Authorities identified the suspect as 51-year-old Chandell J. Davis, of Marion. Police said the video also shows Davis striking the victim in the head with the firearm after the shooting.
Davis then fled the scene in a black SUV, according to investigators.
Police executed a search warrant at Davis’s residence but were unable to locate him. An arrest warrant has since been issued charging him with attempted murder, aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon and pointing a loaded firearm.
The Marion Police Department is urging Davis to turn himself in. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact Captain Josh Zigler with Marion Criminal Investigations or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains ongoing.
