SOUTH CAROLINA — Two schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday morning as deputies searched for a kidnapping suspect in Spartanburg County, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said they are searching for William Nesbitt, who is wanted on charges including kidnapping, domestic violence and larceny. Deputies said Nesbitt fled from law enforcement, prompting an active search in the area.
Officials said Hendrix Elementary School and Spartanburg Christian Academy were placed on lockdown as a precaution during the search.
Around 12:30 p.m., deputies announced that the lockdowns had been lifted. School officials said the precautionary “hold in place” was implemented due to nearby law enforcement activity and was not related to any direct threat inside the schools.
Deputies remained in the area continuing their search for Nesbitt as of Tuesday afternoon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
