OHIO — Police are searching for a man accused of leading officers on a dangerous chase Tuesday afternoon, including driving the wrong way on Interstate 675.
According to Huber Heights Police Sgt. Josh Fosnight, dispatchers received a 911 call from a woman reporting a rolling domestic dispute. Using RapidSOS technology, dispatchers were able to determine the general location of the vehicle, identified as a white Chevrolet Trax, which was parked at a Sunoco gas station on Brandt Pike.
When a police cruiser pulled in behind the vehicle, the driver fled.
Police said the suspect drove onto Interstate 70 eastbound before merging onto Interstate 675 southbound.
During the pursuit, the driver crossed the grass median and continued south in the northbound lanes of I-675, creating a hazardous situation for other motorists. The vehicle later exited at the Broad Street ramp and continued along Broad Street before turning onto Wakefield Drive in Mad River Township, where it eventually stopped.
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Brandon Kelly, ran from the scene. Authorities have issued a warrant for his arrest.
A female passenger was found on Wakefield Drive and taken to a local hospital with minor injuries she reportedly sustained before the chase.
While officers searched for Kelly, police received reports that a silver Honda CR-V had been stolen from the area. Investigators believe Kelly may have taken the vehicle.
Due to the police activity near Wakefield Drive, Greenon Local Schools implemented SECURE procedures as a precaution because of the proximity to the district’s K-12 campus. Under SECURE status, exterior doors are locked, entry and exit are restricted, and classes continue as normal inside the building. The precaution lasted just under an hour and was lifted around 2:16 p.m.
The search for Kelly remains ongoing.
