TENNESSEE — Emergency crews are searching for a missing swimmer at Augusta Quarry after a possible drowning was reported Saturday night, according to the Knoxville Fire Department (KFD).
Authorities said the 911 call came in at 8:54 p.m. reporting that a male swimmer had gone underwater and did not resurface.
KFD responded to the scene in the Fort Dickerson Park area, but initial efforts to locate the individual were unsuccessful.
The Knoxville Fire Department, Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Blount County Rescue Squad are conducting what officials described as an “exhaustive and coordinated” search.
At the time of the incident, Augusta Quarry was closed to the public due to ongoing renovations. The site is scheduled to reopen by the end of the month.
KFD is reminding residents that entering closed public spaces is both illegal and dangerous. The investigation and search efforts are ongoing.
