Pennsylvania State Police are searching for a 75-year-old man who disappeared while practicing flight maneuvers in Indiana County.
Authorities said David Edward Wittmer was practicing touch-and-go landings in an ultralight aircraft in a field near Church Street in Young Township on Wednesday evening. He reportedly took off between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and did not return.
Wittmer’s truck was found near the field, and his cellphone was located inside a camper he had been using nearby, according to investigators.
State Police believe Wittmer and his aircraft may be within a two- to six-mile radius of the field, though the plane has a potential range of up to 100 miles.
The Coal Run/McIntyre Volunteer Fire Department is assisting with the search. Wittmer is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 180 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information is urged to call 911.
