OHIO — A search and rescue operation is underway for a man reported missing after entering Cuyahoga Valley National Parkearlier this month, according to park officials.

In a Facebook post, park rangers said they are seeking information about Michael Vangelas, who was last seen entering the park on Jan. 14. Rangers said Vangelas drove into the park in a white 2024 Toyota Corolla bearing Louisiana license plate N639099.

On Jan. 16, following a snowstorm, Vangelas’ vehicle was found abandoned at the Brandywine Falls Trailhead, prompting officials to assemble a search and rescue team to look for him in the surrounding area.

According to rangers, Vangelas is 42 years old, stands approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, and has brown hair and brown eyes. Park officials released photos of both Vangelas and his vehicle as part of their effort to locate him.

Anyone with information about Vangelas or who was in the Brandywine Falls area between Jan. 14 and Jan. 16 and may have noticed anything unusual is asked to contact park rangers. Tips can be submitted by calling 888-653-0009, online at go.nps.gov/SubmitATip, or by email at nps_isb@nps.gov.

The search remains active, and officials say the investigation is ongoing.
