NORTH CAROLINA — Corrections officials and law enforcement agencies are searching for an inmate who escaped Sunday afternoon from the minimum-security Lincoln Correctional Center in Lincolnton. The escaped prisoner, identified as 42-year-old Roy Burgess, remains at large.

Investigators believe Burgess may be in Gaston County, possibly in the Dallas or Gastonia areas, where he could seek help from relatives or friends.

He was serving a one- to two-year sentence for larceny and has a history of low-level felonies spanning nearly two decades.

Burgess is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds, with brown hair, blue eyes, and a beard. He has the letters “BNG” tattooed on his neck and additional tattoos on his hands and arms. Authorities noted he may have cuts on his body and could be bleeding.

Officials urge anyone who sees Burgess or has information about his whereabouts to call 911 or contact the Lincoln Correctional Center at 704-735-0485. The search remains ongoing.
