LOUISIANA — A New Orleans school bus driver is accused of abandoning six students on the side of a road Wednesday morning in New Orleans East, according to police.

Officers with the New Orleans Police Department responded to the incident around 8 a.m. in the 7000 block of Bullard Avenue. Police said the students, who attend a school serving pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, were found on the bus without the driver present.

According to investigators, there was an altercation between the bus driver and at least one student prior to the incident. Police said the driver pulled over, left the bus, and did not return. The driver was not located at the scene and is still being sought.

The students were reported safe, and no injuries were immediately reported. The investigation is being handled by the NOPD’s Child Abuse Division. Officials have not released the driver’s name or additional details as the investigation continues.
