
NORTH CAROLINA — A search is underway in Rockingham County for a suspect connected to a breaking-and-entering investigation, according to local authorities.
The incident was reported around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, when a woman called 911 to report a break-in at her home on Springwood Drive in Eden. Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page said the woman was outside tending to her animals when she noticed a man in her yard carrying a shotgun.
After realizing her home had been broken into, the woman immediately contacted emergency services. Authorities said the suspect stole a shotgun from the residence before fleeing the area. No injuries were reported.
Law enforcement officials are searching for a man described as wearing a white top and blue jeans and possibly armed with the stolen shotgun. K9 units responding to the scene located an article of clothing near Harrington Highway during the search.
Around 2:30 p.m., a report came in from the Yount Road area of a man matching the suspect’s description. Authorities said the search is currently focused near Highway 87 and Harrington Highway.
Multiple agencies are assisting in the investigation, including the Eden Police Department, Reidsville Police Department, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, and Rockingham County Emergency Management.
Officials say the investigation remains ongoing and the situation is developing.
