OHIO — Canton police are investigating a large shootout outside the Nazir Grotto banquet hall on the city’s southwest side after officers recovered at least 75 shell casings Monday night.

The gunfire erupted shortly after 7:30 p.m. outside the facility at 1717 6th Street SW. Police responded after two security guards and multiple witnesses called to report the shooting.

When officers arrived, they described the scene as “chaotic,” with large crowds gathered both inside and outside the hall. Despite the volume of gunfire, police said no injuries were reported.

Surveillance video from a nearby business captured several individuals firing weapons toward the building. While processing the scene, a nearby homeowner reported that a bullet struck his house and entered the living room while he was sitting inside. Three vehicles were also hit by gunfire.

Inside the banquet hall, officers recovered a pistol found hidden in a microwave. According to the incident report, police said there was little cooperation from people at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
