Police investigating increased vehicle break-ins in Georgia

GEORGIA — The LaGrange Police Department is urging residents to remain vigilant following a recent spike in vehicle break-ins across the community.

According to police, officers have responded to a significant number of reports over the past week involving vehicles that were unlawfully entered, particularly at apartment complexes and multi-unit residential areas.

In many of the cases, investigators found that vehicles had been left unlocked. In other incidents, suspects reportedly broke windows to gain entry, often targeting cars with valuables left in plain view.

Police are reminding residents to take precautions to reduce the risk of becoming victims. Officials recommend always locking vehicle doors, even when parked at home, and removing all valuables, including firearms, electronics and personal items. Residents are also advised not to leave spare keys or key fobs inside vehicles and to park in well-lit areas whenever possible.

The department is encouraging residents to work with property management to ensure adequate lighting is in place and that security camera systems are functioning properly.

Authorities said anyone who observes individuals checking car door handles, lingering in parking lots without a clear purpose or acting suspiciously around vehicles should contact law enforcement immediately.
