ALABAMA — Opelika Police Department say a Saturday evening emergency call that prompted a heavy law enforcement response was ultimately determined to be a false swatting incident.
The incident was reported in the area of Village Drive and Fox Run Parkway. Authorities initially asked residents and motorists to avoid the area to ensure public safety and allow officers to investigate.
Police said officers cleared the scene at approximately 7:20 p.m. after determining there was no active threat. No injuries were reported.
An investigation into the false report is ongoing. Authorities have not released additional details about the source of the call.
