FLORIDA — A suspicious package reported at a home in Fort Walton Beach prompted a multi-agency response Thursday, but authorities later determined it did not pose a threat.
According to a news release, officers with the Fort Walton Beach Police Department responded to a residence on Mooney Road Northwest around 12:30 p.m. on March 19 after receiving a report of a suspicious package.
After arriving on scene, officers requested assistance from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams due to concerns about the contents of the package. Multiple agencies responded, including EOD units from Eglin Air Force Base, the Shalimar Police Department, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the Okaloosa Department of Emergency Management, and state officials.
Following an investigation, authorities determined the package did not contain any dangerous materials.
Police commended the resident for reporting the package, saying the decision helped ensure the safety of the surrounding neighborhood.
Officials also reminded the public to remain alert and report suspicious items. They advise residents not to touch or move any questionable package, to leave the area immediately, and to call 911 with as much information as possible.
