Police in Kentucky warn of fentanyl that resembles candy

KENTUCKY — Authorities are issuing a critical public safety warning after seizing fentanyl in multiple colors, including pink and purple, following several drug-related arrests this week.

Officials said the brightly colored fentanyl poses a serious risk because it could be mistaken for candy, particularly by children. Parents and guardians are being urged to talk with their children about the dangers of drugs and to warn them not to touch or handle any unpackaged or unknown substances.

The warning comes after deputies arrested Teddy Smith on Feb. 1. Smith was charged with trafficking cocaine and heroin. During a subsequent search of his vehicle, deputies discovered a large amount of suspected fentanyl, authorities said.

Additional arrests were made this week in connection with drug possession. Those arrested included Dakota FurgesonDonny Jones, and Amanda Gooden, according to officials.

Authorities emphasized that fentanyl is extremely potent and dangerous even in small amounts and encouraged the public to report any suspicious substances to law enforcement rather than attempting to handle them.
