NORTH CAROLINA — A 56-year-old man is in custody and facing serious charges after police discovered the body of a 66-year-old man who had been violently assaulted, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Authorities say they received a tip about a possible homicide at around 1:18 p.m. on Wednesday.
Officers with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded and found Merle Travis Tedder, 66, dead inside his home.
Investigators determined that Tedder had been the victim of a violent assault.
Later that day, at approximately 4 p.m., police located the suspect, identified as Anthony Leonard White, near the intersection of 6th Street and Church Street. White was arrested following a brief foot chase.
He is charged with murder and concealment of an unnatural death. White is currently being held in custody without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
