Police arrest multiple people on burglary and drug charges in Louisiana

LOUISIANA — Several people have been arrested on a range of charges in Vernon Parish, according to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Sam Craft said the arrests stem from incidents reported in recent days.

On March 27, Andrea Goins, 51, of Anacoco, was arrested and charged with simple burglary and theft. Authorities said her bond was set at $18,000, and she was later released after posting bond.

Also on March 27, Cody Wayne Whatley, 44, of Leesville, was arrested and charged with domestic abuse battery. As of Monday, bond had not been set, and he remained in the Vernon Parish Jail.

Jonathan Cheyne Wheeler, 44, of Leesville, was also taken into custody March 27. He faces charges including possession of a Schedule II narcotic, introduction of contraband into a correctional facility, and an outstanding bench warrant. Authorities said he remains in custody without bond set.

On March 29, John Hammett Lang, 37, of Clyde, Tennessee, was arrested on multiple charges, including traffic violations, possession of marijuana, possession of a Schedule II narcotic, possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He remains in the Vernon Parish Jail, and bond has not been set.

Authorities did not release additional details about the cases.
