Pet food sold in Ohio recalled due to salmonella contamination

OHIO — Ohio pet owners should be aware that Blue Ridge Beef is recalling 5,700 pounds of its 2-pound log Natural Mix due to Salmonella contamination.

While the product was primarily sold in states including Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, Ohio residents who may have purchased it while traveling or through third-party retailers should take caution.

Recalled Product Details:

• Product Name: Natural Mix
• Size: 2 lb log
• UPC: 854298001054
• Lot Number: N25/12/31 (stamped on clips at the end of packaging)
• Distribution Dates: January 3, 2025 – January 24, 2025

Health Risks for Pets and Humans

Salmonella can cause serious illness in both pets and humans. Pets infected with Salmonella may experience lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea (which can be bloody), fever, and abdominal pain.

Even pets that appear healthy can spread the bacteria. 

Humans who handle contaminated pet food are also at risk, especially if they do not wash their hands thoroughly after contact. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.

In severe cases, the infection can lead to serious conditions such as arterial infections or arthritis.

What to Do If You Have This Product

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled food and either return it to the place of purchase or dispose of it safely to prevent access by children, pets, or wildlife.

Do not donate or sell the affected product. Wash and sanitize pet bowls, storage containers, and any surfaces that may have come into contact with the food.
