Person in country illegally arrested for attempted murder in Florida

FLORIDA — U.S. Marshals have arrested an attempted murder suspect in Miami following a multi-agency fugitive investigation.

Jhoandry B. Canelon, 20, was wanted in connection with a June 2024 stabbing in Washington, D.C., where he allegedly stabbed a victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in November 2024.

After learning that Canelon was in Miami, investigators with the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF) and the Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force (FCRFTF) tracked him to a location in the 300 block of NE 54th Street.

On January 28, officers attempted to take him into custody, but Canelon resisted arrest and was subdued with a Taser before being taken into custody.

Canelon was transported to the federal courthouse in Miami, where he appeared before a judge and is awaiting extradition to Washington, D.C. Authorities have also contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement regarding his immigration status.

The USMS CARFTF, which began operations in 2004, works with multiple law enforcement agencies across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., and has apprehended more than 102,000 fugitives since its inception.
