GEORGIA — A portion of Interstate 85 was shut down early Wednesday following an officer-involved shooting in Banks County, according to authorities.

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office said the incident prompted the closure of northbound lanes of I-85 between exits 149 and 154 around 5:30 a.m.

Officials advised motorists to avoid the area and provided alternate routes to reconnect with the interstate, including Highway 59, Highway 63 and Highway 51.

Authorities later confirmed that one lane has since reopened.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the shooting. No additional details about the incident or those involved have been released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
