PENNSYLVANIA — A crash involving a tractor-trailer shut down a stretch of Interstate 83 Friday morning after thousands of frozen hot dogs were spilled across the highway, according to emergency dispatch.

The crash occurred around 9:13 a.m. just south of Exit 8 (Route 216/Glen Rock) in Shrewsbury Township.

Authorities say the tractor-trailer collided with at least one other vehicle, spilling approximately 1,000 pounds of frozen hot dogs onto the roadway.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, but it is unclear if there were any injuries.

As of now, both northbound and southbound lanes of I-83 are closed between Exit 4 (Route 851/Shrewsbury) and Exit 8. Traffic in the area is heavily backed up, and there is no estimated time for the highway to reopen.

Cleanup crews are working to remove the spilled hot dogs, and Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident.
