Over six inches of snow expected for parts of Ohio this week

OHIO — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for parts of Northeast Ohio, including Cuyahoga, Lake, and Ashtabula counties, from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening.

Cities Affected:

The affected areas include Cleveland, Eastlake, Mentor, Painesville, Willowick, Wickliffe, Jefferson, Ashtabula, Geneva, Roaming Shores, Conneaut, Orwell, and Andover.

Forecast Details:

  • Snow Accumulation: Total snow accumulations of over 6 inches are possible, with heavy lake-effect snow anticipated.
  • Winds: Gusts could reach up to 40 mph, leading to blowing and drifting snow.
  • Timing: Snow is expected to begin Wednesday morning, continuing through Thursday evening. Heavier snowfall rates are likely in higher elevations east of Cleveland, particularly east of I-271 and south of I-90. Snowfall may ease Thursday before intensifying again later in the week.

Impacts on Travel:

Hazardous driving conditions are expected, with significant impacts on commutes Wednesday morning, Wednesday evening, and Thursday morning. Motorists should prepare for reduced visibility and slippery roads.

A low-pressure system is forecasted to bring rain to the region Tuesday night, transitioning to snow by Wednesday as temperatures drop. Lake-effect snow squalls will persist across Northeast Ohio during the storm’s peak.
