OHIO — Strong winds sweeping across Ohio left more than 300,000 homes and businesses without electricity as of Saturday morning, according to outage tracking data.
PowerOutage.us reported that about 313,917 customers statewide are without power, representing roughly 5.8% of the more than 5.4 million customers tracked in Ohio.
Franklin County had the highest number of outages with more than 53,000 customers affected. Cuyahoga County reported about 44,000 outages, while Licking County had nearly 18,000 customers without electricity. Tuscarawas and Stark counties each reported more than 11,000 outages.
Several electric utilities reported widespread disruptions. American Electric Power Ohio had the largest number of customers without power, with nearly 149,000 outages. FirstEnergy reported more than 109,000 customers without electricity, while AES Ohio reported more than 10,000 outages.
Utility crews are working to restore service as conditions allowed. Officials said the outages were largely caused by strong winds that damaged power lines and equipment across parts of the state.
