Oregon Police awarded $963,000 for technology and equipment upgrades

OREGON — The Oregon Police Division has been awarded a $963,000 grant from the Department of Justice’s COPS Office Technology and Equipment Program.

The grant will be used to enhance the department’s capabilities through cutting-edge technology and specialized training for officers.

Joined by U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur, the Police Division announced the grant yesterday.

The funding will support the acquisition of two police canine units, new Special Response Team vehicles, a 3D crime scene scanner, a 300-degree training simulator, and other high-tech tools.

Key highlights include:

Two police canine units with training, equipment, and vehicles. New Special Response Team vehicles equipped for emergencies.

A 3D crime and crash scene scanner, a 300-degree police training simulator, crisis response video throw phones, and flock license plate readers for two years.

Two fully loaded “Enforcer” golf carts, an interactive touchscreen display board for the training center, and dditional security cameras and servers for municipal and recreational complexes.

The Oregon Police Division expressed gratitude to Representative Kaptur for her support in securing the funding.

The grant aims to enhance officer training and community safety through these technological investments.
