INDIANA — Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced Thursday that a major law enforcement operation along the Indiana–Illinois border resulted in more than 200 arrests.
Operation Midway Blitz, conducted by the Department of Homeland Security in coordination with the Indiana State Police, led to the arrest of 223 people on Indiana highways near the state line.
Among those arrested were 146 truck drivers, including more than 40 with commercial driver’s licenses issued in Illinois, California, and New York, according to DHS officials.
Secretary Noem said the arrests included individuals with prior offenses such as driving under the influence, drug trafficking, theft, burglary, assault, child abuse, domestic battery, prostitution, and fraud.
Also attending Thursday’s announcement in Gary were U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons, ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan, and Indiana Secretary of Public Safety Anthony Scott.
Officials said Operation Midway Blitz is part of a larger Chicago-based enforcement initiative targeting criminal activity on Northwest Indiana highways.
