GEORGIA — A 39-year-old woman has been arrested after deputies discovered children living in what authorities described as “unlivable” conditions inside a hotel room.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Suzanne Shelton was taken into custody and charged with contributing to the delinquency or dependency of a minor.
Deputies were called to the Super 8 hotel on Washington Road to assist a Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) worker who had been unable to make contact with Shelton. When officers arrived and knocked on the door, a child answered.
Authorities reported that upon entering, they observed unsanitary and hazardous conditions throughout the room. Deputies said the space was filled with trash and flies, with no bedding on the beds and little room to walk.
Investigators also noted that the children appeared dirty, with visible dirt on their skin and clothing.
Emergency medical services transported the children to Wellstar MCG for evaluation.
Officials said Shelton has been involved in at least one prior DFACS case in Thomson.
The investigation remains ongoing.
